DR. NKEM CHUKWUMERIJE / Director
Nkem Chukwumerije is the Assistant Area Medical Director at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Panorama City, California, where he oversees the Hospital and Post-Acute Service Line operations. He is also the Regional Leader, Utilization Management, for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. In this role, he has responsibilities for the inpatient quality management operations of 14 hospitals. He has held several positions within Kaiser Permanente that include Chief of Hospital Medicine and Director of Utilization Management, Director of Inpatient Quality Management, and Director of Performance Improvement. Nkem completed his medical school at University of Nigeria, Internal Medicine residency training at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, and Executive Masters in Healthcare Management and Policy and Post-Doctoral Fellowship trainings at UCLA School of Public Health and School of Medicine respectively. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is the Immediate Past President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) and Past President of the North American chapter of the University of Nigeria College of Medicine Alumni Association. Nkem is the President and Founder of THRIVE Development Foundation--a non-profit organization that develops and supports safety net programs for the poor, especially widows. He lives in Santa Clarita, CA, with his wife, Eukay, and 3 children.
